What
is Toad Suck Daze?
Traditionally held the first weekend in
May, Toad Suck Daze is a festival organized with
activities and events planned with family fun in
mind.
Festival events include:
carnival rides, food concessions, arts
and crafts, music/bands, competitions, and is
just a “toadally” awesome weekend.
The goal of Toad Suck Daze is to raise
money to provide community scholarships to the
local educational institutions.
The
festival’s name is taken from a colorful
phrase coined during the heyday of steamboats on
the Arkansas River.
It is said of the boat captains and crews
that, while passing the time at the local tavern
until the water level was high enough to pass,
they would “suck on the bottle until they
swell up like toads.”
The tavern is long gone, but the legend
lives on!
