History
Conway
was incorporated in 1875. Col. Asa P. Robinson,
Conway’s founder, was given a one-mile tract
of land as compensation for railroad
construction between Little Rock and Fort Smith.
Conway has grown from this railroad and
river town to a thriving community abound with
business and industry.
Demographics/Education
The
population of Conway is 43,167, based on the
2000 Census. Conway
is designated as the “City of Colleges.”
We are home to Central Baptist College,
Hendrix College, and the University of Central
Arkansas.
Parks
and Recreation
Conway
has many city parks and open green space.
The city has two sports centers that have
indoor basketball courts, racquetball courts,
indoor track, and meeting facilities.
The Parks and Recreation Department also
supervise the walking/bike trail that is a paved
and lighted 1.2-mile trail with a large pavilion
and parking lot.
Conway is also host to three private,
18-hole golf courses:
Cadron Valley Country Club, Centennial
Valley Country Club, and Conway Country Club.
